LorMet Donates $35,000 to Second Harvest Food Bank

Thank you for your generosity, LorMet members!
LorMet Community Federal Credit Union presented a $35,000 donation to Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio on Tuesday, November 18th, funds raised through LorMet’s tenth annual member match campaign to support families facing heightened food insecurity this holiday season. Since 2016, the credit union has contributed more than $254,000 to Second Harvest, including this year’s support, which will help provide an estimated 210,000 meals to families in the community.
The need for assistance has grown sharply as many households struggle with halted SNAP benefits. In just the first five days of November, Second Harvest has seen a 49% increase in households compared to the same five days last year, underscoring just how deeply this crisis is impacting the community. The food bank normally distributes 1,000 boxes a week during this time of the year, but with the increased need, that number has doubled, a sign of the rapidly escalating pressure on food programs.
2025 Totals
$16,950.50 in member donations + $18,049.50 matched by LorMet = $35,000 total donations providing an estimated 210,000 holiday meals to local families
Our members showed remarkable generosity in response to this year’s campaign for Second Harvest Food Bank, coming together to fight hunger and support families as the holiday season approaches.
“Thanks to the LorMet team and their incredible members stepping up once again this year. Local families can find comfort knowing they’ll have the food they need this holiday season. With the effects of the government shutdown and persistently high food prices making it harder for many families in our community to put food on the table, their generosity couldn’t have come at a more critical time. We’re deeply thankful to have a community partner like LorMet on our side!”
Julie Chase-Morefield, President & CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio
“Our first campaign for Second Harvest in 2016 was initiated from a shared commitment to support families in our communities. This year, with many local households feeling an even greater strain, that commitment feels more important than ever. Asking for member donations without contributing ourselves didn’t feel right back then, and it still doesn’t, so we chose to match contributions to strengthen our collective impact. Together, we’ve helped give more than a quarter of a million dollars over the past ten years. Looking back on this journey, I’m inspired by the ongoing generosity of our members and the meaningful difference we continue to make for families across our community.”
